Are You A Good Candidate for Male Breast Reduction?
The best candidates for gynecomastia treatment are healthy, emotionally stable, near or at their ideal weight, and have good skin elasticity. Male breast reduction may be right for you if you want to:
- reduce the size of enlarged breasts
- eliminate excess, sagging skin
- achieve a firmer, flatter chest
Surgical gynecomastia treatment in males who are overweight may not be ideal, since the problem may be resolved with weight loss. Dr. Arledge will discuss your candidacy with you.
Your Male Breast Reduction Procedure
During your consultation, Dr. Arledge will determine whether your gynecomastia is caused by fatty deposits in the chest or enlarged glandular tissue. Depending on the source of the problem, she may recommend one treatment plan over another.
For fatty deposits, Dr. Arledge can perform liposuction to remove fat, which requires only small incisions that are easily hidden. In many cases, liposuction alone can alleviate gynecomastia. However, if your gynecomastia is caused by enlarged glandular tissue, the tissue will need to be removed in order to achieve a smoother, slimmer chest. The procedure requires only a small incision at the bottom of the areola (the darker skin around the nipple) or under the arm and only takes about 2 hours on average. In some cases, skin excision may be necessary to eliminate excess, sagging skin.
Your goal is my goal:
To enhance your appearance subtly
You may feel slight discomfort after surgery with some swelling and bruising which usually subsides over the next week or two. To keep swelling to a minimum, will wear an elastic compression garment that keeps constant pressure on the chest and helps promote healing. Most patients are ready to return to work or school within a week.
Results and Benefits
Most teens and men who undergo gynecomastia treatment are incredibly thrilled with their results and experience a boost in confidence. Your results will be permanent, although maintaining a stable weight is ideal since fluctuations in your weight can affect the look of your firmer, flatter chest.
